Shane Sabbatical Summer Blog
Hey Everybody!
As you read this, I am on a summer sabbatical. One of my passions is not only to have a healthy church but also to create a healthy staff culture. A church is only as healthy as its leaders. A sabbatical is one of those rhythms at The Crossing that helps create spiritual health. So, you may be wondering, what is a sabbatical and what are we planning for this summer at The Crossing? Great questions.
- Sabbatical: A sabbatical is an extended time away from the regular duties of work for the purpose of rest, renewal, and replenishment. Although I will take some vacation time to be with my family, it is not an extended vacation. Because of the demands and pressure of ministry; while walking people through the most difficult periods of their lives, many pastors neglect their own spiritual, emotional, physical and relational health. When The Crossing began, our Elders and Leadership Team implemented a regular season of rest and replenishment for our pastors to push against that trend. When our pastoral staff has served for six years, they are eligible for a three-month sabbatical. That three-month season started for me on May 1st. I am so grateful to have a group of Elders who value having a healthy staff. It is an incredible gift to step away from the weekly teachings, to dream about what is next for The Crossing, and to plan for the next season of ministry.
This Summer at The Crossing

May 13: Mother’s Day, Jodi Hickerson
At The Movies (May 20 – June 17)
When you read the gospels, Jesus would use modern-day stories to convey the truth of God. He was the master storyteller. In this series, we are using movies, the best way of telling stories today, to teach about God’s truth. We are doing something different than we have ever done before. We are intertwining the message and the clips together. I have actually filmed three of the messages for this series already and I cannot wait for you to find out what movies we chose (although we won’t reveal each movie until you come to church!).
However, due to copyright laws, you must be at church IN-PERSON in order to experience our At The Movies series. If you are someone that normally watches online, I want to encourage you to come and experience this series in the room at one of our two campuses. If you are sick or are unable to be here, we will have the worship streamed live and an encore presentation of a series we have done previously. Here is the teaching line-up for this series:
May 20: Shane Philip
May 27: Mike Breaux & Jodi Hickerson
June 3: Shane Philip
June 10: Lee Coate
June 17: Shane Philip
Playlist: Your Favorite Psalm Has More To Say (June 24-August 5)
June 24: Scott Whaley
July 1: Lee Coate
July 8: Nate Johnson
July 15: Lee Coate
July 22: Tim Liston
July 29: Jodi Hickerson
August 5: Shane’s Back
Have a great summer! I will be praying for you daily and looking forward to seeing you when I return on August 5!
